A common report by the two central councils of Tachnak and Henchak Parties agreed on the following candidates:

  • BEIRUT PROVINCE

MP Najah Wakim's withdrawal in the opinion of political figures:

Hoss considers it as a loss, Hariri has no comment, and Lahhoud denounces.

Some of Wakim's supporters wept and protested his decision. Wakim decides to withdraw, with his People's Movement List Members from the nomination to Beirut's elections, saying: "We refuse the 'packaging' and our attitude is not considered as a withdrawal from the political career." People's Movement reached yesterday afternoon, to a decisive determination, after long internal debates, to refrain from nominating to the coming legislative elections, where Wakim declared this decision, in a Press conference in Carlton Hotel, amid astonishment of the attendance.

President Rafic Hariri looks forward for winning the battle of elections, affirming that he is going to use the moral means, away from misdeeds. He said so during a dinner on his honor, by Armenian Sportive Organization, Homentmen, yesterday night, sponsored and attended by him, in the Forum hall, on the 79 anniversary of the organization, in the presence of Beirut Dignity list candidates for the three Districts, together with Manager of Hariri's electoral campaign Salim Diab, members of the organization, and a crowd of Armenian figures and sportsmen.

Dignity list candidates of Beirut Third District, Mohammad Kabbani, Nasser Kandil, and Ghazi Aridi, met in Captain Abdul Fattah Ghannoum's Residence, in Ras Beirut, representatives of many Beiruti families.

Dignity List of Beirut Second District's electoral machines arranged an electoral convention to the list's candidates: MP Bechara Merhej, Judge Walid Eido, and Dr. Basem Yamout, together with a crowd of families.

Prime Minister Dr. Salim Hoss announces his list yesterday night in the place of Media Syndicate for the Third District, (List of National Work):

Makhzoumi holds a convention in Carlton Hotel as an invitation by Mrs. Halal Labban, within a crowd attendance of 3000 of Beirut families. He also works on installing an alliance through contacting others, including: Maronite Fouad Metni, Evangelical Abraham Dadayan, Catholic David Issa, Orthodox Michel Sassine.

Saadeddine Khaled is about to finish his list having Maronite Georges Chehwan, Orthodox Nicola Chehwan. Hoping for a real alliance which includes him with Makhzoumi.

Mouhieddine Doughan, having in the previous session 41 thousand votes, is making efforts and intensive contacts to crystallize a list of: Sunni Dr. Mohammad Anwar Baassiri, Maronite Habib Zoghbi, Orthodox Georges Haddad, Evangelical Fouad Issa.

Dr. Fouad Metni says that it is a biggest yielding to recognize the woman's salary from Man's salary, by making it less. As, sound woman gives sound society.

MP Hussein Yatim affirmed in his speech of the pressures to which families are exposed so as to impose Authority candidates against national candidates.


  • SOUTH PROVINCE

Candidate Kamal Younes made tours on Tyre Casa meeting its leading figures, and presenting his electoral program. He met also Zahrani candidate Philip Rached Khoury and discussed ways for cooperation.

Dr. Ahmad Mrad nominates himself for Nabatieh District, in a press conference held in Chkif Club in Nabatieh city.

Between crowdy inauguration for the Governmental Saray in Jezzine, President Nabih Berri attacked the remainings of the feudalist figures, who show up every four years. The Country of Beiks, who gave Lebanon dissension and allowed way for the occupation.

Among crowds of about 1500 persons, during a festival, attended by Southern effective figures Labib Abou Atmeh says that our decision for leading the battle is decisive, so as to break the obstacles of despair and devastation. His speech was during an invitation by MP Mohsin Dalloul on the honor of Hariri.

Dhiite Adnan Gahzali announced his nomination for West Bekaa-Rachaya District.

Hezbollah's list was born in Baalbeck-Hermel District:

Chiites: Hussein Hajj Hassan, ammar Mousawai, Hajj Ahmad Yaghi, Hussein Husseini, Ghazi Zeaiter, Assem Kanso.

Sunnis: Massoud Hujairi, Ibrahim Bayan

Catholic: Marwan Fares

Maronite: Nader Succar.


  • NORTH PROVINCE

Charles Ayyoub addresses the voters through his Ad-diyar Newspaper's platform, calling them to use their freedom of choice for voting, he announces his nomination for Batroun Casa, North Second District, considering that 'the battle for real change on the basis of which he led both elections of 1992 and 1996, is still going on, needing your responsible and effective participation and stand in front of History and Conscience.'

Surprising developments occurred on President Omar Karami's list. The withdrawal of Engineer Wassim Hassane Ezzeddine, replaced by Dr. Mohammad Nadim El Jisr. A coalition picture would show up today, Karami's final list today, and a third list is on the way, on Friday. Karami-Mouwad coalition is on fire, and the Afandi's bet is on the popular participation.

MP Issam Fares urged for leveling the democratic and political life and career, saying that the variety of lists opens more choice for voters to select. He added that the Authority's performance is an important part in the domain of honesty in the elections, stressing on focussing on the real matters, which concern the citizen and the State, especially as the living crisis, and the economical situation are backing off and the debts are multiplied by doubles.

Minister Najib Mikati says that Tripoli's interest believes in not responding to the comments and accusations.

MP Musbah Ahdab says: I was embarassed so as to be put out of the list of Development and Unity. But the reason of my withdrawal was not financial. The truth is to beat Musbah Ahdab and the people who stand behind him. But, as I rely on god, and I am still continuing to be a candidate, many chances would be opened in order to work with other good and clean figures. As I found that hearts have no good wills, I preferred to work alone through my clear system.

Dr. Nizar Younes warns of having the political life become a dessert, through money spending for achieving democratic aims, neglecting the building of a state, which needs to achieve people's rights, and to help the country escort the modern era.

Mohammad Mattar says that he is a candidate of political and intellectual qualifications. He is optimistic and believes in the awareness of people to participate and express in the election event.


  • MOUNT LEBANON PROVINCE

Maronite Rafic Abi Younes announced his nomination during a press conference in his village Akoura. He defends Lebanon's unity and calls to uncover the miserable situation from Keserwan-Jbeil District.

Consul Antoine Akiki says: I am neither a seller of opinions, nor a Commercants of promises. I will keep on being a farmer with all farmers, bearing the effort for success, to every citizen. I a\m from you, for you, and with you."

Alliance between MP Albert Mkhaiber and MP Nassib Lahhoud is gone under the impossible, despite Media's and Bkerki's attempts, which all had failed.

Druze Attorney Nabil Mezher moved his nomination from Baabda to Aley.

MP Walid Joumblatt calls for an independent decision with the Regional interests, saying that Lebanon will not be stable unless coexistence takes place between all parties, from the Socialist till the Lebanese Forces.
