Directorate General of Lebanese Interior Ministry
sets deadline dates for submitting the electoral permissions and for withdrawing the nominations:

A. The period for submitting the permissions ends at the hour 24 of Friday on 11/8/2000 for both Mount Lebanon and North Districts.

B. The period for withdrawing the nominations ends at the hour 24 of Wednesday on 16/8/2000 for the above mentioned Districts.

  • BEIRUT PROVINCE

President Dr. Salim Hoss praises his government's performance, during an electoral festival, saying: 'Floods of political money are thrown into the battle'.

President Rafic Hariri says: 'People got fed up of slogans and words about the history. The coming government should revise the unfair taxes. This speech was during an honoring party set by Attorneys and engineers of "Future" current.

Engineer Fouad Makhzoumi visited Lebanese Gathering Center for Protecting the Environment, in Chiah. He spoke of electoral program, especially what concerns the environment.

Druze Esmat Saab announces his nomination for Beirut Thritd District during a press conference.

MP Tammam Salam announces the names of his list, which is called "The National Compromise", from Msseitbeh, including himself:

Sunni Mohammad Machnouk, Chiite Hezbollah's candidate Former MP Mohammad Berjawi, Armenian Orthodox Mahran Safarian, Minorities Former Chief of International Siriani Union Habib Ephram, leaving the Orthodox seat vacant.

Dr. Basem Yamout met Sabra's family.

Judge Walid Eido visited Hammoud's residence in Mar Elias area, in the presence of lot of family members.

  • SOUTH PROVINCE

Candidate of Socialist Arab Baath Party Dr. Kassem Hachem visited Saida, meeting its leading figures, and discussing with them the electoral situation.

President Kamel Asaad answers Berri: "We will continue our struggle till we kick out the enemies of Jesus (Pharrisists)."

Chief of Nabatieh's Doctors' Bond, Dr. Jamal Alou announces his nomination for Nabatieh.

Akram Farhat visited Southern villages meeting their political, social and Syndicate leading figures. He met Chief of Marj El Zouhour Municipality Mohammad Hajj and Imam of the village Mohammad Hajj. Then he met Baraachite's Mayor Ali Farhat, its Deputy Chief of Municipality Ibrahim Farhat. Farhat met also, with Ansaray's Mayor Hassan Farhat. In Marjeyoun he convened with Orthodox Mutran Elias Kfouri and Catholic Mutran Antoine Hayek.


  • BEKAA PROVINCE

List of Parties named by "The Unity and Development" will be announced tomorrow from Baalbeck Temples.

Chiite Ali Mohammad Husseini nominated himself to Baalbeck-Hermel District.


  • NORTH PROVINCE

Minister of Public works and Transportation Najib Mikati visited Office of Islamic Tawhid Movement, and was received by its Secretary General Cheikh Bilal Said Chaaban and members of its Secretariat Council, in the presence of Malek Allouch and many other religion Scientists.

The Fourth list in the North's First District (Akkar, Dennieh, Bcharrey), was announced consisting of:

Khaled Daher and Hassan Merhbi (Sunnis)

Joseph Mkhayel (Maronite)

Abdallah Hanna (Orthodox)

Zahreddine Issa (Alawite)

Kassem Abdul Aziz and Mohammad El Fadel (Sunnis, Dennieh)

Said Tawk and Inas Kayrouz (Maronite, Bcharrey).

MP Mohammad Kabbara affirmed that the coming battle is political more than being electoral, calling for more efforts as one team, because Parliamentary masses impose themselves more in the Parliament.

President Omar Karami determines the Sunnis and Maronites seats saying: "We had chosen those who work for Tripoli only."

MP Musbah Ahdab says: "I never beg money from anybody. President Hariri called me to come back to the list but I refused."


  • MOUNT LEBANON PROVINCE

Officials and delegates denounced the shooting fire on MP Basem Sabeh. He said: "Let the investigation takes its place."

During an immense convention for Struggle Front in Ras Metn, Ayman Choucair says: "Lebanon does not survive without freedom".
