Directorate General of Lebanese Interior Ministry sets deadline dates for submitting the electoral permissions and for withdrawing the nominations:

A-The period for submitting the permissions ends at the hour 24 of Friday on 11/8/2000 for both Mount Lebanon and North Districts.

B-The period for withdrawing the nominations ends at the hour 24 of Wednesday on 16/8/2000 for the above mentioned Districts.

  • BEIRUT PROVINCE

President Salim Hoss, affirms, among crowds of more than 300 people present, together with Ministers Mohammad Youssef Baydoun, and Issam Numan, and Ahmad Tabbara, in Chief of Defending Beirut's Rights Council Saeb Matraji's residence, of his steadiness to protect the position of Prime Ministry.

Lebanese Republic Moufti Cheikh Mohammad Rachid Kabbani received MP Tammam Salam, who discussed late electoral topics.

President Rafic Hariri visited Ras Nabeh area, with his Dignity List members of First Beirut, and was bestrewed with roses and rice grains.

MP Bechara Merhej, together with other members of Dinity List of Second Beirut, said during a crowdy convention of 250 attendants, “If they knew the truth, they would not have said what they said.” Whereas, Druze Ghazi Aridi said that the Official Media is the property of all.

List of “People's Decision” was announced, consisting of: Maronite Fouad Metni, Sunni Dr. Mohammad Baassiri, Orthodox Attorney Georges Haddad, Catholic David Issa, leaving the second Sunni and the Evangelical seat empty.

The birth of “Al Wafaa” list was announced for First Beirut, of: Sunni Engineer Saadeddine Khaled, Maronite Georges Chehwan, Orthodox Jack Tamer, Evangelical Fouad Issa, Catholic Attorney Najib Lyan, leaving a Sunni seat vacant, among a crowdy festival in Abou Chaker Square.


  • SOUTH PROVINCE

Cheikh Naim Kassem Deputy Secretary-General in Hezbollah, says that the elections open chance for sharing in the parliamentary life, and in defending the rights.

Attorney Akram Azouri claims that the alliance of Amal and Hezbollah in Jezzine creates indifference between Jezzine's people.

After a meeting between: Talal Bazzi, Wassim Bazzi, Atef Dagher, and Ali Bazzi, they, the named attendants, authorized President Nabih Berri to choose one of them in his coalition list.

  • BEKAA PROVINCE

Ammar Mousawi continued his electoral trips in Lebanese districts, visiting Arab family in Hay Sullum, Beirut Southern Suburb, calling for implementing the rights for Baalbeck-Hermel area.


  • NORTH PROVINCE

Maronite Batroun Candidate Charles Ayoub will have a televised interview today on NBN TV.

In his residence in Dennieh, MP Ahmad Fatfat said, during a convention attended by President Rafic Hariri, that: “Under the slogan of saving money, they made people reach poverty, and destroyed the economy.”

President Omar Karami says: “Our nation is intelligent, but is politically used, even though, will choose freely, despite the two years siege of the State's age, which were lost without being productive.

Sunni Mohammad Safadi said that he does not belong to any political party.

MP Musbah Ahdab announced, during a press conference, attended by more than 5000 people, in Al Rawda Cafeteria, Tripoli, that he is going to assail the electoral battle alone.

Ahmad Asmar nominates himself alone, and continues his electoral visits.

Maronite Attorney Badawi Hanna affirmed during his electoral trips, of the importance of struggling so as to acquire the required change, and fighting the corruption.


  • MOUNT LEBANON PROVINCE

A new list was formed in Baabda Aley of: Chiite Saad Slim, Maronite Imad Hajj, and Salam Meemari (Aley).

Maronite Pierre Gemayyel says that the Jungle law is controlling Metn elections.

Dr. Paul Karam withdrew from Baabda Aley.

Former Minister Joseph Hachem says that “Chouf for All” list does mean nothing to him and that he is withdrawing from the elections, keeping his political career consistent.

“Chouf For All” list members, headed by Attorney Naji Boustani, are intensifying their activities and electoral visits, being in Chouf coastal villages, such as Barja, and Damour, and then, Mountain, such as Bekfaya, and Mazmoura.

Interior Minister Michel Murr announced list of National Accord and its program in Btighrine, denying the talks of having the Authority's systems interfere in the elections, and said that the law will be applied on all, starting from himself. His list consists of: Michel Murr, Emile Junior Lahhoud, Ghassan Achkar, Mounir Hajj, Sebouh Hovnanian, Chaker Abou Sulaiman, Antoine Haddad.
