Directorate
General of Lebanese Interior Ministry
sets deadline dates for submitting the electoral permissions
and for withdrawing the nominations:
A-The
period for submitting the permissions ends at the hour 24
of Friday on 18/8/2000 for Beirut, Bekaa and South
Provinces and their Districts.
B-The
period for withdrawing the nominations ends at the hour 24
of Wednesday on 24/8/2000 for the above mentioned
Provinces and their Districts.

DISTRICT (AKKAR – BCHARREY – DENNIEH)
"Development
" List consists of: Chief Hassan Merhbi, MP Khaled
Daher, Abdallah Hanna, Joseph Mkhayel, Zahreddine Issa,
Kassem Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Fadel, Inas Kayrouz, Said Tawk.
"Independent"
List consists of: MP Omar Miskawi, Mustapha Ajam, Bassam
Dayeh, Camille Mrad, Mohammad Iskandar, Georges Chabtini
(Tripoli), Najib Boulos, Gebriel Draik (Koura), Robert
boulos (Zghorta), Lili Saadeh, Georges Daou (Batroun),
leaving six vacant seats: two Sunni and Orthodox (Tripoli),
one Sunni (Menieh), one Orthodox (Koura), two Maronites (Zghorta).
Former
MP Mahmoud Tobbo nominates himself alone, saying that these
elections are the worst.
MP
Sayed Akl tripped through most of Menieh, Tripoli and
Batroun villages.
Orthodox
former Chief Of Board Of Directors of Tripoli Port announces
his nomination alone.
Engineer
Gilbert Moussa Al Moujabber announced his nomination, alone
for Keserwan Ftouh-Jbeil, Maronite seat.
A
third list is named by "Free Will" includes Dr.
Fadi Jerjes, Dr. Suhail Aawar, Engineer Georges Bou Chdid,
and Rafic Feghali.
Dr.
Sabbah Hajj launches alone his nomination for the Chiite
seat.
Joseph
Freiha also launches alone for Orthodox seat.
MP
Nassib Lahhoud announced his list named by
"Liberty" list, of: MP Nassib Lahhoud, Michel
Samaha, Auguste Bakhos, Riad Abi Fadel, Walid Khoury, and
Rafi Madayan, All for North Metn District, leaving 2
Maronite and Orthodox seats vacant.
Raji
Abou Haidar withdrew from elections, for Metn-Catholic seat.
Maronite
Emile Emile Lahhoud insisted that no family problems or
personal quarrel exist, saying that his nomination is
neither directed against anybody, nor for grasping power or
position, but only to represent a fundamental portion of the
society, i.e. the youths.
MP
Elias Hobaika, according to As-safir, is rejected by
Moslems, but politically imposed. He says: "My problem
is with Hezbollah, and I bet on the Christians."
MP
Walid Joumblatt says "Who rules Lebanon, if Lahhoud
does not intervene in the elections? The government is no
more existing, it was replaced by the Intelligent
System".
MP
Basem Sabeh affirmed that the national alliance, which
created the list of "the Unity of the Mountain",
was wanted as original and not composite, patriotic and not
foreign, opened and not packaged, and solid and not
separated".
MP
Najah Wakim attacks President Hariri and the
"tent", in a crowdy festival in Sarafand, saying
that "Intelligent men are directing the elections and
are trading with everything."
President
Rafic Hariri visited Armenian Henchak Ararat Organization
praising the Armenians, and their role, and urging to make
use of the chance for a change through elections.
MP
Jamil Chammas received popular delegates including Beiruti
leading figures.
Chiite
Nasser Kandil considered that the graduates who represent
future generation were of Hariri's creations.
MP
Bahiya Hariri makes her trips in many Saida's districts
saying: "We are still with President Nabih Berri, and
he has a coalition with Hezbollah, as this is a compromise
to the benefit of the South, including that of Saida. When
we say that we are allying and agreeing, we mean that, and
we will implement our coalition".
Sunni
Hussein Mohammad Zainab continues his popular meetings,
including Southern leading figures and families.
Sunni
Attorney Ahmad Fattouh calls for a modern law for initiating
the Reform.
