Directorate
General of Lebanese Interior Ministry sets deadline dates
for submitting the electoral permissions and
for withdrawing the nominations:
A-The
period for submitting the permissions ends at the hour 24 of
Friday on 18/8/2000 for Beirut, Bekaa and South Provinces
and their Districts.
B-The
period for withdrawing the nominations ends at the hour 24
of Wednesday on 24/8/2000 for the above mentioned Provinces
and their Districts.

Sunni
Bachar Krayyem calls for dense participation in the
elections so as to spoil the packaged listing and to break
the 'tractors'. He pronounced that in an invitation festival
made by the Koura's organizations and clubs, on his honor.
MP
Issam Fares writes in As-safir on 21-8, affirming his
continuance to assail the electoral battle and he expresses
his electoral program.
President
Omar Karami with MP Nayla Mouawad attended a festival for
their list of "Patriotic Dignity", in Bahnin
village, Menieh. President Karami called people not to
believe the candidates' programs, affirming that the people
would not be bought by money. MP Mouawad said that the
conflict is not between persons, but between two different
methods.
Engineer
Bahaa Harb calls his supporters (he means citizens of North)
to meet on the 27 th of August, to express their decisive
word, as he is continuing his battle.
List
of "Solidarity and Development" met in Tripoli for
the occasion of having Islamic Group's candidate Engineer
Abdallah Babetti in the list.
Sunni
Engineer Abdul Rahim Alameddine joins the "Independent
List" in a festival attended by Minister Omar Miskawi.
MP
Wajih Baarini headed a meeting for political office of
"Akkari Popular Gathering", exposing the
actualities and the event of the counting, i.e. elections.
President
of the Socialist Progressive Party MP Walid Joumblatt said
"We had not opened fire against Syria, our sacrifices
with Syria are more than this bargaining. We all call for a
law where the minorities could express themselves. This was
spoken during his reception of big delegate from Choufi
Ammatour village, together with MP Nayla Mouawad escorted by
Samir Franjieh.
MP
Nassib Lahhoud headed his list of "Liberty" in an
electoral festival in Beskinta, attended by its members of
the list and a crowdy audience. He said, "The
liberation from this oppression exists through achieving the
change".
Member
of list of "Accord and Renewal", Hezbollah's
candidate Ali Ammar explained the reason for not allying
with MP and Former Minister Elie Hobaika.
Druze
Anwar Alameddine affirms his nomination.
MP
Talal Arslan called people to dense their presence to the
Ballot boxes on coming Sunday, so as to vote fully for the
two lists: "Accord and Renewal" and "Chouf
for All", saying "We insist on cleaning the
political life and not by robbing and having deals."
MP
Elias Hobaika paid visits to villages of Baabda and Aley
including Wadi Chahrour, Abbadieh, Falougha, Rechmaya, and
other villages.
Ali
Kanso of Syrian National Social Party visited MP Antoine
Hitti in Chemlan, and called people to vote fully for the
list of "Accord and Renewal".
Georges
Kassab withdrew from Keserwan, saying that there is a veto
against his Party, of which he is nominated to the
elections.
President
Salim Hoss visited Saida yesterday, in particular MP
Mustapha Saad's, then the Stadium of Saida, where he said
"The aim of their campaigns is that they are putting
their eye on the Prime Ministry."
President
Rafic Hariri warned of a catastrophe, during a crowdy
electoral festival made by Itani family in Werdanieh, in
Iqleem Kharroub, attended by candidates of Dignity list:
Ghazi Aridi, Bassel Fleihan, Walid Eido, Jean Oughasapian,
Serje Torr Sarkissian, together with 1000 Beiruti living
there. Then President Hariri together with his list members
made a tour in the mountain reaching Rouwaisat Sofar. He
said that "democracy and freedom are in stake, and that
the attacking made by our adversaries shows their
confusion." President Hariri then visited Sibline,
attending the Socialist Party's festival with "Future
Current", in the presence of candidates of "Nidal
Wattani Front" (Patriotic Struggle).
Bourj
Kalaway village made a festival honoring its son, Nasser
Kandil (Chief of National Press Council). The latter is
setting a dinner in Bristol Hotel today at night, to honor
President Hariri.
Sunni
Ahmad Tabbara assured that whatever is their propaganda, the
members of list of "Patriotic Work" will never
shift from their aims.
Dr.
Ghada Abdallah Yafi and Rabih Malik hold a press conference
today in Decaded Dr. Abdallah Yafi's residence, to announce
their alliance.
Organization
of Islamic Charitable Projects set a popular festival in
Bachoura, attended by Dr. Adnan Traboulsi, and Dr. Badr
Tabech, who also had speeches.
Sunni
Cheikh Yahya Khalifeh convened with families of Abou Chaker
Area (Abdul Nasser Square), affirming, in his speech, that
the country's security must not be violated.
Ahmad
Mumtaz had his oratory convention in Mar Elias Street.
Attorney
Omar Zein had conventions with Saifi families announcing his
nomination alone against "Money monopolists and
conspiring whales".
Dr.
Mouwaffac Yafi had electoral conventions with Beiruti
families calling the voters to select their candidate away
from considering the lists.
Sunni
Akram Farhat joined the festival set by Hezbollah in Khiam,
accompanied by a delegate of Chebaa families exceeding one
thousand.
Minister
of Information Anwar Khalil meets a delegate of Hasbayya
people where he promised to have a list of "resistance
and Development" completed, which would be announced
this weekend.
Democratic
Alternative list is completed and will be announced within
two days, by its chief Former MP Habib Sadek, including
also: Communists Saadallah Mazraani, Fawzi Asmar, Tarek
Chehab, Majed Fayyad, and Riad Asaad, excluding Elias Abou
Rizk Chief of General Workers Confederation, who is going to
launch by himself the electoral battle.
Dr.
Ahmad Baydoun is not nominated for Bint Jbeil, saying that
the results are known in advance.
In
Saksakieh a luncheon party was made on the honor of MP's
Ayoub Humayyed, Mohammad Abdul Hamid Baydoun, and ALi Hassan
Khalil, all spoke of the importance of the electoral
alliance and compromise between Amal Movement and Hezbollah
for the sake of protecting the liberation and triumph
achievement.
Cheikh
Sobhi Tfaily (Leader of The Revolution of Hungers) announced
his primary list, consisting of: Cheikh Abbas Yazbeck, Dr.
Mohammad Sulaiman, Dr. Mounir Hujairi, Engineer Chawki
Fakhri, Hafez Amhaz, Rifaat Masri, keeping the door opened
for Former MP Dr. Albert Mansour. Cheikh Tfaily pronounced
his speech in his office in Douris, his village, saying,
"I am not regretting the past… I will beat all those
who are going to forfeit".
Souheil
Hamadeh is no more nominated to Bekaa-Hermel.
Sunni
Dr. Mohammad Dergham holds a press conference in his office
in Baalbeck.
A
festival was set in Saadnayel village, honoring the Popular
Mass list and attended by MP's Elias Skaff, Nicola Fattouch,
Kahlil Hrawi, Mohsin Dalloul, Georges Kassarji, Mohammad Ali
Mais, and Former MP Mkhayel Debs.
MP
Mahmoud Abou Hamdan attended a festival on his honor, by
Irfan Tawhidiat School in Dahr Ahmar, he spoke of being
opened and of maintaining the Lebanese solidarity.
Hezbollah's
Bekaa candidates continued their electoral trips, visiting
Bekaa families in Beirut, and having popular conventions
with their leading figures. MP Hussein Hajj Hassan and Ammar
Moussawi, and other Hezbollah candidates visited villages in
Bekaa such as: Chmistar, Tarayya, and Baalbeck City.
