Directorate General of Lebanese Interior Ministry sets deadline dates for submitting the electoral permissions and for withdrawing the nominations:

A-The period for submitting the permissions ends at the hour 24 of Friday on 18/8/2000 for Beirut, Bekaa and South Provinces and their Districts.

B-The period for withdrawing the nominations ends at the hour 24 of Wednesday on 23/8/2000 for the above mentioned Provinces and their Districts. 

259 candidates for Beirut, South and Bekaa provinces.

  • NORTH PROVINCE

In Koura, during an oratory festival for Dignity list, President Omar Karami says, "It is not allowed for the robbers to live happily with the sinful money, and all the Northerners are called to interrogate each thief, ill-mannered, and shortened."

Minister of Agriculture Sulaiman Franjieh accuses one of MP Nayla Mouawwad's Bodyguards of distributing weapons in Racheen. He then meets Islamic Group in Tripoli saying, "Christians are going to surprise the one who worked on withdrawing Ahdab from the list."

In Bcharrey, MP Kabalan Issa El Khoury and Boutros Succar (Coalition List) compete with MP Jubran Tauk, and Benoit Kairouz (Popular Will list), and Anias Kairouz and Said Tauk (Development List).

The Communists say, "We had not nominated anybody in the North, Second District."

A youths' convention was shared by MP's Faez Ghossn and Farid Mkari, in 'Future Current''s office, attended by Chief Samir El Jisr.

Minister Najib Mikati says, "He is aimed everyone dealing in the public concern in Tripoli." He spoke in youths' meeting in the office of 'Future Current' in Tripoli.

"Solidarity and Development" list sets its festival near Tripoli Exhibition, MP Boutros Harb says, "The official media is put under the free will of the competing list".

MP Omar Miskawi announced canceling the festival to be made in Tripoli Exhibition today, saying, "This Exhibition should be specialized for certain sides."

MP Jean Obeid saw that Lebanon is in need of a better governmental performance monitored by a modern Parliament.

MP Musbah Ahdab says, "The lists of the Second District are bases on betrayals".

Sunni Abdul Nasser Raad makes an electoral festival in Bab El Tebbaneh.

Sunni Bachar Krayyem says, "The change is possible through the group's will."

Ghassan Adhami says that the parliamentary majority is known by now.

Alawite Dr. Nassr Khodor says, "I will be the voice, that is high against hunger, joblessness, and oppression, which reach the North."

MP Mkhayel Daher opens an electoral office for his coalition list, in Jounieh.  


  • BEIRUT PROVINCE

Armenian Henchak and Tachnak agree on the Armenian accord in the elections and for the national aims.

"Accord List" of MP Tammam Salam continues its political and spiritual trips, meeting President Nabih Berri and agreeing with him on his efforts for calmness.

Nasser Kandil honors President Rafic Hariri in Bristol Hotel yesterday during a dinner invitation.


  • SOUTH PROVINCE

 "Democratic Alternative" is announced today from Saida and Jezzine, Saadallah Mazraani says, "The Party has no connection with this list, and we are on with this battle."

Former MP Habib Sadek clarifies from the office of his list that he would never withdraw.

MP Bahiya Hariri warns of taking advantage of the security, and that no more going backwards to the powers of the ground."

Chiite Engineer Riad Asaad said, during his popular meetings in various South districts, "Elections are part of our project".

Sunni Akram Farhat sponsors a festival for the children in Chebaa.

Minister of Information Anwar Al Khalil clarifies that he does not own a Bank.

Baathi's Dr. Kassem Hachem continues his electoral conventions and trips on South villages.

Chiite Attorney Majed Fayyad visited Tyre City, and villages of Hanawey, and Kana meeting their families.

Sunni Hussein Zainab continues his electoral battle, giving the priority to the Southerners.


  • BEKAA PROVINCE

Cheikh Sobhi Tofeily announces his list "Bekaa's Decision, the third in Bekaa, Baalbeck-Hermel District, in Baalbeck, infront of a Factory for Electrical Power. Cheikh Tfeily called for a referendum on many fundamental issues, especially those constitutional.

Attorney Dani Sulaiman continued his conventions and trips in many villages of Machghara, Suhmur, Lebbaya, Kherbit Kanafar, Marj, Kamd Lauz, Karoun, Jib Jnin, etc., meeting their leading figures and citizens.


  • MOUNT LEBANON PROVINCE

A meeting was held between representatives of MP Elias Hobaika and Hezbollah's candidate Ali Ammar, as they had reached an agreement.

MP Talal Arslan's office denies the rumors against his list.

MP Basem Sabeh uncovered yesterday night of having issued electoral cards for candidates in Aley-Baabda District despite Interior Ministry's decision of closing the door of issuing such electoral cards.

MP Walid Joumblatt, visiting Mazraat Chouf, after the security incident causing injuries and arrests, says, "Let the elections be canceled if they cause 'face slaps'".

Socialist Progressive Party warns of inciting fire during the elections day of August 27, saying, "The authority had buried the honesty of the elections through its negative practices."

"Chouf For All" answers against MP Walid Joumbaltt and Dori Chamoun, by saying. "We cherish our national flag and are proud of our armed forces."

Riad Raad will have today an electoral festival in Ghobeiri, Fayed Raad Street.

Patriarch Sfeir received Emile Emile Lahhoud saying, "Pressures do not enable to express opinions."

MP Nassib Lahhoud announced his "Liberty List", including: him, with Michel Samaha, Auguste Bakhos, Riad Abi Fadel, and is going to hold a popular convention in Baabdat-North Metn.

Attorney Mohammad Haidar Ahmad withdraws his nomination.
