Minister
of Interior Michel Murr issued yesterday, a timetable for
the deadlines for submitting the nomination declarations to
the legislative elections and for the backing-offs, together
with the required documents for each, it said:
"In
compliance with the Decree No.3294 on 28/6/2000 published in
the Official Newspaper, Issue No.29 on 6/7/2000 arranging
the electoral constituencies to call for electing members of
the Parliament, according to the following timetables:

Mount Lebanon: First, Second, Third and Fourth Districts.

North Lebanon: First and Second Districts.
-
Beirut City: First, Second, and Third Districts.
-
Unique Electoral District including both South First and
Second Districts.

Bekaa First, Second, and Third Districts.
Considering
the Article 35 of Law No.171 dated 6/1/2000 (which notes the
amendment of the Law for electing the members of the
Parliament), it is due on each who wishes to nominate
himself to the elections the following: to deposit to the
Administration of the Ministry of Interior a written
declaration duly and personally, signed, being certified by
the Notary Public, specifying sect and Casa or area, to
which he wishes to nominate himself, within a certain
electoral District, before the date of elections by at
least, fifteen days, and depositing in the Finance Box an
amount of LL.10,000,000 (Lebanese Pounds Ten Million) which
would not be refunded unless he wins in the elections or
obtains a 10 percent of more of the electorates' votes,
which are legally gained.
The
candidate might wish to back-off his nomination in
accordance with Article 37 of Law No.171 dated 6/1/2000. He
then, deposits a legal written declaration certified by the
Notary Public, in the Administration of Ministry of
Interior, before the elections date by at least ten days,
where he is refunded by half the amount previously
deposited, i.e. LL. 5,000,000 (Lebanese Pounds Five
Million).
Hence,
those who fulfill the required conditions mentioned in
Articles 6, 28, 29, and 30 of the Law No.171 dated 6/1/2000,
and wish to nominate themselves to the Public legislative
elections, for the year 2000, have to submit their
nomination declarations within a period of time starting
from this date, to the Department of Political and
Administrative Affairs in the General Directorate in the
House of the Ministry of Interior – Previously known by
the Governmental Palace – Sanayeh – Beirut, before the
following deadlines:
