Significant Incidents:

  • The most significant event that locally occupied the political environments is simplified by the announcement that the International Envoy Terje Roed-Larsen had conveyed. It speaks of the removal of most of the Israeli violations, and the way is now opened for the deployment of the International Troops, along with the border fence, and in the liberated areas, from which Israel had recently withdrawn. Larsen said yesterday, after meeting President of the Republic and Prime Minister, Emile Lahhoud and Salim Hoss, that he reported the Lebanese side of the Israeli official pledge to UN to rapidly correct all the violations, and that most of them were corrected. He indicated to the deployment of the International Troops as it is a question of time. While the Lebanese side had insisted on seeing that the violations had not been completely removed, and the Israeli withdrawal is not fully achieved, wondering of the wisdom deduced out of determining the end of this month to finalize removing these violations, saying that it will not take for Israel more than two hours to do so, Larsen announced that the Lebanese and International teams are going to check, on Monday, the day after tomorrow, that everything is OK, and will work together to correct or hurry in correcting the remaining few violations.


  • On the other hand, these environments followed-up the developments of holding the conference of Granting Countries. Governmental sources mentioned yesterday, that Lebanon starts today to address formal invitations to the Granting Countries to meet, on Ambassadors' level, in Beirut on the 27 th of this July, these invitations will be accomplished on Monday, the day after tomorrow. These sources said, according to political environments, that the meeting will present a Lebanese emergency plan including the demand for urgent and instant aids, in addition to the preparation of next meeting in the coming October, which will study the Lebanese constructing and building plan.


  • Other files occupied the attentions, and were distributed on the concerns of living, and elections. On the living concern, the medias watch the declination reached, after the late workers' movement, and the hard living situation including the panic that different establishments undergo especially the Cooperatives. Whereas the electoral concern seems to be the priority of people, as long as the date for the elections is approaching, accompanied with increase in competition, pictures and current preparations to establish lists in more than an electoral constituency.


Press News:

  • An-nahar politically followed-up what Larsen conveyed to the Lebanese officials, and viewed that the atmosphere appears very positive, and that the conveyed news cherish the role of UN in resolving the question of the violations. Then, An-nahar electorally followed-up the situation in the North, particularly what President Omar Karami bears in his pocket to establish an electoral list saying that it is homogeneous.


  • As-safir, followed-up the living concern and the link of the campaigns assaulted between the government and the opposition with the electoral operation, warning of the situation being opened to all possibilities.


  • The Future newspaper followed up the developments of the electoral divergences on the 5 Tripoli's Sunni seats, saying that this divides Tripoli, which is considered as a basic center of weight in the North Second District which includes: Tripoli, Koura, Zghorta, Batroun, and Menieh. This newspaper continued that this District lives early hot electoral battle climate, and it is not easy to predict its results, because of the distribution of power between the competitors, the appearance of new aspects on the electoral arena for the first time in this city, and the penetrations of powers who were previously allied. The Future newspaper drew the picture of the competing political powers in Tripoli undergoing many interior problems. This newspaper also, follow-up the electoral situation in Nabatieh District, saying that it lacks the electoral atmospheres, and noticed the absence of enthusiasm, pictures, festivals, keys, and car processions, as this district lives a cold reaction against elections unlike previous elections.


  • 'Nidaa el-watan' wrote in its preface of the possibility of boycotting the elections by different political sides and categories, considering this boycott would not be of importance on any domains especially the electoral.
