Significant Incidents:

  • For the third consecutive day, the file of Border together with the verification of the Israeli violations continued to be in the advance of other concerns, which occupied the political environment. Plus the files of legislative elections and the severe living crisis, where the first has the beginning of the announcements of the nominations officially, and the second is opened on various possibilities.


  • Regarding the South borderline, Lebanese and International Teams of Experts resumed operating on the check of the removal of the Israeli violations out of the Blue Line. UN sources expected the arrival of the International Envoy, Terje Roed-Larsen to Beirut, at the end of the current week, upon having finalized the removal of the violations. He will, then discuss with the Lebanese officials in the coming up stages, after the Israeli withdrawal, i.e. the deployment of the International Troops and Lebanese Army in the South. On ground, observing sources said that the checking operation for the removal of the violations goes on properly, against Israeli backing-off from some point, towards the line demarcated by UN. It is expected to continue that within these two days, in order to arrange for the final report speaking of that concern.


  • The political medias also watch attentively the results which might show up after the proposed meeting of Ambassadors of the Granting Countries to reconstruct the South, after being invited through their Diplomatic corps, International and Regional Organizations, by Prime Minister Salim Hoss, to participate in the conference. Lebanese and regional sources and following-up medias saw that the conference of the Granting Countries might only study the Lebanese proposition, whereas aids would not reach before months. They indicated to the urge for using the available means to insure money needed through the General Balance, or through demanding from Arab Countries to commit to their pledge towards Lebanon. The medias watched the care for renewing for UNIFIL, as they perceived that it is the last, because UN looks forward for having agreements between Lebanon and Israel.

Sources see that General Workers Confederation might postpone their movement till the end of the legislative elections, because the remaining age for this government could not show effective achievements.


Press News:

  • An-nahar said that there exists an attempt to reach an electoral coalition in Aley-Baabda District, which might softens the congestion in the atmosphere there. This attempt might be real after the proposed visit, which MP Walid Joumblatt wishes to pay to Damascus, tomorrow, Thursday. It viewed that there would not be big masses in the future House, so as to provoke any leading figure imposing himself and his opinions on others. This newspaper says that the evidence proving the aforesaid is interpreted through the fact: All Chiefs of the lists are facing, upon their establishment, applications for candidates who are not belonging to them, but, intervening references are imposing them. Those chiefs who refuse such candidates are facing penetrations in their lists, which makes them enter the House with small masses, leaving the opportunity for the Ruling authority to keep its reins on the House with its majority.


  • As-safir, viewed that the legislative elections pose a case which is much more important than only knowing the candidates' fate, reaching the chore of the democratic manner in these elections, the roots of the democratic parliamentary Regime, and its application. It continued that, if the case was properly dealt with reaching future solutions, then the coming elections will perform a great share in the future of the political life and Regime. However, if all the parties kept only watching this case, cross handed, then the coming elections won't be, as concerning their results, except a chain out of the chains contributing to the elections since 1943, always renewing to the MP's.


  • The Future newspaper pursued the electoral hotness in the North, and the electoral motion in Mount Lebanon. It stopped long at Minister Najib Mikati's reply to President Omar Karami who had attacked him with Minister Sulaiman Franjieh , in a televised meeting. Mikati called for a big North parliamentary mass. It also noticed the crowdy Alawite candidates in the North, saying that their number reached 12 in Tripoli, and 6 in Akkar, all are competing for two North seats. Meanwhile, Future newspaper said that "National Mass" finally decided to share in the elections, by nominating Chief (Aamid) Carlos Eddeh and Sakhr salem for Jbeil, under the possibility of forming a list reaching the level of a District. In Kharroub Sector, this newspaper said that Attorney Naji Boustani is late in announcing his list due to reason of the Group's reluctant attitude towards forming this list, fearing of its influence on its focus on Akkar.


  • 'Al kifah el-arabi' remarked that a meeting in Beau Rivage took place between Hezbollah and Amal Movement aiming to stabilize on ground the situation in the South. A committee was born consisting of representatives of each party from each village, meeting periodically, and upon emergency, to deal with any emerging situation, in addition to preventing the armed presence on ground, to deliver the person causing any mischief, and to confront any impulsive member who might affect the security situation there.


  • 'Nidaa el-watan' is sorry for those who might boycott the elections, saying that they must learn a lesson from the results of their previous boycotts, and the levels this manner had made the country reach to.
