Significant Incidents:

  • The South document rests the most capturing attentions of the medias, in the midst of ebb and tide that the case of verification of the withdrawals and the treatment of the Israeli penetrations survives, as Israel kept silent towards the report it received from UNIFIL regarding its troops' penetrations in the Lebanese border. The UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's special Envoy, Terje Roed Larsen reaches Beirut this Friday, accompanied with a UN map expert, together with the International team who works on re-discovering the Israeli penetrations, which were enlarged in many locations, according to witnesses and to officials in UNIFIL.

The newspaper had also pursued the election situation in Metn, where political preparations are in their peak, and said that the National Party is allying with the opened figures in Phalangist Party, whereas Pierre Amin Gemayyel excluded voting to any of the Phalangist-National candidate. Future newspaper watched the situation of obtaining the electoral card in Nabatieh, South Lebanon, and saw that the immobility of the candidates is faced with a motionless reaction for the electorates. It indicated to the weak interest towards getting the electoral card, because most of the citizens there consider that the battle is already determined.


  • An-nahar, wrote a subject concerning the Southern domain, saying that UN General Secretary Kofi Annan fears of having the Israeli interior situation imposing on Prime Minister Ihud Barak to express inflexible reactions towards the question of borders and the penetrations, which might influence on the whole situation on the borders in general, and leads to endangering the presence of the International Troops. The Newspaper viewed that Annan finds it fearful for UNIFIL in case Lebanon decided to resist as an answer to the Israeli penetrations.


  • As-safir, and always in the electoral issue, pursued the Syrian attitude and its perspectives towards the legislative elections, and saw that Damascus is not in a situation so as to amend its pressures against its opponents, but watches some directions that are opened to outside for confronting the Syrian role in Lebanon. It said that Syria does not tend to effect a coup-d'etat in the political portray or in the domain of the electoral alliances, but leaves some files within the hands of the Lebanese, although it does not conceal its interest in observing the results of the elections and the matter of having the opponents surpass the present ruling era in different districts.
