Significant Incidents:

  • The situation in the South, the verification of withdrawal, and the regional communications launched by UN General Secretary Kofi Anna, were on the top of the interests of political medias, in addition to the interior document that started to have significant attention, which is the legislative elections. The medias observed with big attention Kofi Annan's meeting Brig. Gen. Bachar Asad in Damascus, which was UN General Secretary's third stop within his Middle-Eastern trip. Bachar affirmed Syria's support to Lebanon in its fair demands, while Annan declared that the checking operation and the penetration removal will reach to an end soon.


  • A significant development appeared in Syria, simplified by the call for hastiness in managing the constitutional situation, and proceeding the plebiscite for presidency, where the Chief of Syrian People's Council Abdul Kader Kaddoura declared that the Council officially received a letter from the Country Leadership nominating Brig. Gen. Bachar to the Republic Presidency, and that the case will be discussed on the coming Sunday, excluding the idea of the deferment of the Plebiscite till the end of the mourning period of Late President Hafez Asad.


  • In another document, Lebanon faces a new development in the international deal, represented by being listed with countries that are not capable of handling the question of 'money whitening', together with Israeli, and Federal Russia, out of 15 other countries. The Seven Industrial Countries Group declared that Lebanon is accused of whitening money, and that it had to treat the matter as soon as possible. This newspaper knew that MP Nassib Lahhoud, and the two ex-MP's Michel Smaha, and Auguste Bakhos decided to wade into the elections in the Metn District in one list. As-safir denoted to the discussions dealt with regarding the deployment line, and the increase in its number, not exceeding in present, one thousand soldiers.


  • Ad-diyar published a report on the general economical situation and the nationals' living conditions through the increase in taxes and fuel oil prices, with their reflections on the nationals. In addition to the decision issued by Minister of Water and Electricity obliging the inhabitants of the liberated fence to pay the water and electricity subscriptions to the State.


  • Al-Bayrak mentioned relating to the electoral domain, that Brig. Gen. Bachar Asad will not meet any candidate nominated to the legislative elections, as a reaction for not justifying that to be in the margin of intervening in the Lebanese matters.
