Significant Incidents:

  • The documents concerning 'what after Israeli withdrawal' and treating its penetrations, captured the attentions and follow-up of political medias, especially to the suggestion that France had claimed for re-operating April Understanding Committee. Of course, it faced the Lebanese and UN's rejection, dashing from the fact that the Understanding is no more considered as valid, and has no relation with the present situation. And, that UNIFIL remains the principle issue, whereas the issue of reviving the Truce Committee is under study.


  • Expected is the continuation of the checking operation on the Israeli border penetrations, in the same time where an Israeli position appeared through its Prime Minister Barak, related to the Syrian track, declaring that he is ready to negotiate, but would not give up Lake Tabaraya.


  • The medias followed-up the re-opening of the corruption documents in Syria, during the time where the Syrian People's Council approves today, of nominating Brig. Gen. Bachar Asad to the presidency, appointing a date for the Plebiscite, to be, according to sources, on the beginning of the coming July.


Press News:

  • Future newspaper quoted from UN sources, that April Understanding became ancient, and that Lebanon is clinging to the Truce Agreement, whereas Israel considers the latter as null. This source, through this newspaper, indicated that Lebanon primary and principally demand, is relying on the UNIFIL in the South.


  • An-nahar mentioned in an article written by one of its editors, that the electoral machine in Lebanon is wholly directed by the Syrian Principal General Ghazi Kanaan, and the Director General of the General Security Office General Jamil As-sayyed. An-nahar viewed that the loyalty to Lahhoud portrays the significant measure for Damascus to choose its allies. It also pursued the electoral file and published a report on Baabda-Aley District, saying that the poles are waiting for Hezbollah to act in this District, to whom all the eyes are forwarded, and who is infront of three choices: Either allies with Joumblatt where all know each candidate's power and bloc, or allies with Talal Arslan which is straitening to the Party, or assailing the battle with its ally MP Pierre Deccache. An-nahar wondered if the Christian candidates could change the equation? The newspaper, also, considered the electoral situation in the North, especially in the first District (Bsharrey, Dennieh, Akkar) saying that there exists a flagrant discard of applying the electoral card, due to its burdens, and that there is a marathonic race to share in the list of the powerful. An-nahar also quoted by MP Tammam Salam that he is with the coalitions, considering that the lists formed in Beirut, the capital, are hasty, calling to use the means of radicalism.


  • As-safir mentioned that Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nassrallah visits today the Republic Palace, and meets President Lahhoud, to accentuate on the distinguished relationship between the Resistance and the State. This visit opens a new page of official relations between both sides. As-safir said that the construction program of the liberated areas could be accomplished without the American aids, and that Lebanon refuses conditions that aim to implement an arrangement agreement with Israel. It denoted that the inhabitants of the liberated villages demanded clarifications regarding the criterions considered by the hired team that studies the volume and shape of the financial compensations granted to them.


  • Al-hayat published a report regarding the reasons for nominating Bachar Asad for Presidency, saying that they are seven, first of all is confronting the corruption, the interaction between two generations, and the Peace as a Strategic Alternative.


  • Ad-diyar mentioned that the Chiite quadrilateral meeting that included Presidents, Nabih Berri and Husein El Huseini, Imam Mohammad Mehdi Chamseddine, and Cheikh Abdul Amir Kabalan, was not aimed against Hezbollah, but was for cutting the path on the dissension, and blocking the way on penetrating the classes. Ad-diyar affirmed that the members of that meeting agreed on the necessity of having the government receive the situation in the South, together with its establishments. Ad-diyar said, regarding the electoral concern, where Nassib Lahhoud's Metn alliances started to show clearly, as this list will show up within the two weeks. It realized that there exists a mild back off in relations between Lahhoud and Albert Mkhaiber, for not neutralizing the Orthodox seats. And, that there is a trend for being closer to Auguste Bakhos, and for a constant ally with Michel Smaha.
