Significant Incidents:

  • The main file that rests ahead of all other incidents today is the South File: The question of verifying the Israeli withdrawal in compliance with Resolutions 425 and 426. At the time where UN received new signals from Israel showing possibility of its withdrawal from regions disputed on their border demarcation, UN teams could not verify the final line for withdrawal. Meanwhile, Lebanon reaffirmed the fact that it would never lose any mile of its national territories. Parallel to the above, a new-old file reappeared: the Corruption file in Lebanon, and the return of the war of files in concurrence with the Reformation and Corruption fighting that are occurring in Syria, according to what many references expressed in various newspapers.


Press News:

  • As-safir mentioned that the political media were surprised by the return of the war of files, jumping to question all of a sudden, without introductions, after liberating the South. Looking sources, and still As-safir, said that liberation is not enough, and the battle today is transparency and honesty, and there are no more excuses for not continuing the campaign against corruption. The same sources denied the relation of this battle with the coming electoral battles. As-safir quoted from Banking sources that the return of the demand for the Dollar refers to the political pressures that are exercised on Lebanon in addition to other foreign directions, in order to send the Army to the South. All lie within the confusing campaign that is assailed against the Lebanese State.


  • Ad-diyar mentioned quoting from Socialist sources that MP Walid Joumblatt is now convinced that there exists a resolution that was taken to beat the political rank in Lebanon and Syria. This resolution started its way to execution after President Lahhoud's receiving the power, and with the establishment of new Council of Ministers, excluding Hariri and Joumblatt. Ad-diyar continued quoting that the execution began effectively in Syria and will be soon continued in Lebanon. Ad-diyar showed the American attitudes towards the Lebanese South, and said that the American Administration was expecting more from Lahhoud to impose sending the Army to that region. Ad-diyar quoted that the Administration expects sending the Army in concurrence with the early elections in Israel.


  • Future newspaper issued an investigation regarding the present, past Members of the House, and those before war, who discussed the changes between today and yesterday. All considered that the elections are more political than in the past and the content of alliances was different, although the latter depend on family alliances. Some warned of the electoral "bus" that sweeps the little district and village. Future newspaper also issued an investigation on the books concerning National Culture and Civil breeding, after having accomplished publishing the 12 books. It made an interview with one of the specialists and trainers who mentioned that the teachers who are going to lecture these subjects are not specialized. This newspaper also mentioned that specialized references are giving 6 more months for the owners of the cars that exist in the liberated districts to settle their car matters. During such period the operation of confiscating cars will stop.


  • An-nahar commented again on the declaration of Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Sharaa, indicating to the difference existing between this declaration and the President's attitudes that consider the Syrian existence in Lebanon as legal and temporary. This newspaper also mentioned that the visit of French Foreign Minister to Beirut, next Sunday, will be a station for gentle reproof by the Lebanese officials on the French attitude towards Lebanon, and on some of his declarations towards Lebanon.


  • Al-liwaa published an investigation regarding Bouj Al Arab village in Akkar, and the inhabitants' suffering of the watering pump which its name is now called the Death pump due to the number of its victims which reached 12 children.


  • Ach-chark newspaper made a round on the hotels of Kesrouan and Bekaa that are empty of guests due to economic crisis. One of the hotel managers considered that the marketing policy of the State does not help in solving the problem.
