  • The UN General Secretary, Kofi Anan, distributes, next Monday, on the Security Council's Members, the report received yesterday from his Delegate to the Middle East, Terry Rod Larsen. The Security Council holds meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday, and issues a report decision on Thursday or Friday. Then Larsen repeats his visit to the ME region, but this time it will be described as executive.


  • Anan had received yesterday, a phone call from Prime Minister, Salim Hoss. He informed the latter that the UN studies carefully and seriously, the documents sent by Lebanon concerning the Lebanese identity of Shebaa Farms.


  • Anan, also, runs conversations with President Jack Chirak, in Paris, which, at the same time receives President Rafik Hariri.


  • The topics of the Israeli withdrawal from the South of Lebanon and the future of Peace Process in the Middle East, were the subject of the telephone call between Ihud Barak and the Egyptian President, Husni Moubarak.


  • In Washington, the Israeli Activities Coordinator, Uri Lubrani, said that there exist two principle problems that obstruct the implementation of the Decision 425 in order to achieve a withdrawal with less aggression possible. These are; the Frontiers Drawing, and the Southern Lebanese Army's fate. This army is a problem to Israel who in its turn, as Lubrani said, has to dismantle it. He continued saying that an open and former warning must be forwarded to Syria, which he accused of preventing Lebanon from reaching an agreement with Israel, and also, instigating for revenge of Lahed Militia militants.


  • The terminal report of the Lebanese-Egyptian Upper Council that met in Beirut, insisted on the fact that the Israeli withdrawal is a victory to Lebanon, and stressed on the necessity of its being comprehensive, and includes Shebaa Farms.


  • On the other hand, the President of the Republic, Emile Lahhoud's decision to return the suggested law, that accepts considering the Identity Certificate in the Parliamentary elections, incited the Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, together with the majority of the Members, to call for avoiding any confrontation, and to push the situation towards securing the Electoral Cards in a quick and inclusive manner possible. All are now sure of the Presidential aim is: achieving the elections in an honest atmosphere.


  • As far as the electoral movements are concerned, President Berri's resources ensured that he will inform the popular delegations visiting him, that he will leave them the freedom to choose the candidates in the South, requesting them to have a collective agreement for any candidate in any plot.


  • President Hariri's resources confirmed that Hariri sees the coming elections as an important chance for creating a change, and indicated of the preparation of three whole lists in Beirut.


  • Last but not least, the Syndicate Coordination Society warned of the continuation of the economical and living crisis, and insisted on having salaries readjustment and an increase in the social offers.
